Sorry for being away so long. I have been quite busy with my teaching my new Asian Studies classes at Jakarta International School.
Since I am teaching the unit on European Colonialism in the 19th Century, perhaps I ought to focus on the Orientalist movement in European art and music. Colonial expansion brought tales of exotic far-off lands to the European imagination. These tales were part truth and part fantasy. The Orient evoked an exotic dream-like world.
